General physicians are highly qualified professionals who are different from other doctors as they provide health services to patients with complicated diseases which are not limited to one body system only. Their education and training enable them to care for patients whose diagnosis is difficult.
Due to their expertise, they can judge what effect the multiple medicines the patient is having would have on his different body systems. They advise diagnostic tests reasonably, carefully, and efficiently to investigate the patient’s disease. They are often consulted by the surgeons before surgical procedures to assess the risk factor and afterward to oversee the patient’s recovery.
They are experts in making difficult medical decisions based on the patient’s condition. Most general physicians treat hospitalized patients but they also have their own consulting rooms.
A letterhead is a document that has the basic and important information related to a business or organization printed in the header and sometimes the footer. A general physician would need a letterhead to note down a patient’s history, advise diagnostic tests, and prescribe medicines. It is also used to record the patient’s Blood Pressure, Pulse rate, Temperature, and other basic vitals taken at the time of appointment.
They may also use the letterhead to note any important observations or advice for the patient. This also serves as a record for the physician to be compared on subsequent visits as and when required. The follow-up appointment date is also usually written on the letterhead.
It is advised to have the following details on a general physician’s letterhead.
- Name: The name of the physician is the most important part of the letterhead and hence it should be written in bold in the middle of the header in a clear font.
- Qualification: It is important for anyone looking at the letterhead to be able to know the physician’s qualifications. They should be written in sequence and in block letters under the name. Its font should be smaller than the name.
- Address of the clinic: Sometimes the physician sits in multiple hospitals along with the private practice, in that case, all of these should be listed along with the consultation time at each place.
- Contact Information: Contact information including the phone number and the email address should be listed here. This is very important so that the patients do not face a problem in booking an appointment or contacting the doctor in case of an emergency. Often the number given is that of the physician’s personal assistant. In that case, the name of the PA should be clearly mentioned with the phone number.
- Important Information: Sometimes the doctors feel that some generic information relevant to most patients, can be added in the footer for a quick reminder. This may include some dietary guidance or a reminder to check the insulin levels or blood pressure regularly.
- Off days: It is important that the days when the clinic is closed, are clearly mentioned to avoid inconvenience to patients.
The letterhead is very important for the general physician especially because chemists are strictly prohibited from giving out medicines unless they are on the physician’s letterhead. The letterhead lends an air of authority and professionalism, and its design should not be taken lightly.
It should have all the relevant details written concisely in a clear font. It is also very convenient to have all the important details handy like the phone number to set an appointment and the clinic timings.
